Sajal Roy is one of those sensitive artists who matured in the 50s and 60s. These artists breathed in the acrid, gunpowdery air of discontent in the post-colonial collapse of the dream that the national leaders of India loved to lecture about throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Nikhil Biswas, Rabin Mondal and Bikash Bhattacharjee of the later generation, and many other artists shared with Sajal the restless time, and violently reacted to the human situation that boiled up with anger over a world betrayed. This was the time when artists talked about their commitment to portray their Age.
