Artist Statement
My familiarity with rural spaces comes with childhood associations of growing up in the
village. The sharp contrast between the rural and the urban, where I have presently
moved to, is so overwhelming that my visuals have been sourced in a random fashion at
times overlapping the two diametrically opposite spaces. Though I recognize the
differences of these two spaces, I also look into the areas of reconciliation that often
comes in the form of the mofussil. The overtly chaotic, overcrowded spaces require
a systematic viewing and documentation so as to gradually form my visual register.
Now, I have been practicing based on Terracotta, wood carving and concrete etc.
My search of forms also shifted towards the urban space which I have negotiated by
virtue of living an active part of city of Kolkata.
Concept Note
These are works simultaneously designed-based and direct portrayal of motifs. On one
hand these are geometric designed and on the other hand these are recognizable
objects with definite psychological associations. Here I attempt at an artistic
ambivalence while indicating the source and at the same time negating them by taking
them off their contexts and present as refined design entities. My search of forms

I intend to interact with people specific to spaces/sites to weave experiences of the
spaces along with studying their social & cultural history. The idea here is to
Relate the past and the present in looking into the contemporary.
Portraying of spaces is my prime objective. I want these portrayals to be simultaneously
objective and informative. I might negotiate these intentions with an automatic
emotional rendering, but I believe this negotiation shall bring about a character in
forming the visua
